Building from cvs (wrong autoconf version?)

After installing the latest gnu make, libtool, automake, autoconfig, make

make –f Makefile.cvs

gives:

.
*** Creating configure
aclocal.m4:11581: error: Autoconf version 2.54 or higher is required



autoconf –V returns:

autoconf (GNU autoconf) 2.57

Any suggestions on fix/workaround?
