Where is your drive connected? Is it an UDMA-drive. Than you need special 
kernel-options and and boot-time option ide-scsi. These drives were used as 
scsi. Older SuSe-ditribtuions are not able to work with them. (7.1 I don't 
know). Possible, that you need a newer version.
