Gideon... where is the executable?

you have to install gideon into your KDE directory, otherwise it won't find 
the plugins. (./configure --prefix=/opt/kde3 or wherever kde is installed).

You can also use

export KDEDIRS=$KDEDIRS:/usr/local/kde
kbuildsycoca

to rebuild the component catalog, then start gideon.
