configure: error: libXext

Hello,

I'm trying (for the first time) to do the example in the kdevelop tutorial
http://www.caldera.com/skunkware/kde/kdevelop_tutorial/
The last step in the Application Wizard is to click on 'create'.
Then I get the error:

configure: error: We need a working libXext to proceed. Since
configure can't find it itself, we stop here assuming that make wouldn't
find them either.
kdoc: Can't read library
/usr/share/doc/kdelibs-devel-2/kdoc-reference/libkmid.kdoc.gz/libkmid.kdoc


However /usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.a exists.
I would very much appreciate any hint!
