Bug in KDevelop 2.1.2 / KWrite? Tabs

If I select in KDevelop editor options to use "Tab Indents" and then try to 
indent via CTRL+I or select the "indent" command from the Edit menu, text 
gets indented by what seems to be a space, definitly not a tab.

I'm working on some legacy software and need to keep formating consistant.
