changing the defaults of a very simple project

I have an existing simple project (no ./configure etc, just a set of 
Makefile's) that I've imported with Project->Generate Project File. 
This part works. However, if I then go to Project->Options->Binary 
and try to set the location of the project binary to something other than the 
default (ie ./bin/mybinary ) , kdevelop tries to run the non-existing 
./configure script and breaks the project.

Any ideas as to how to get around this?
