Record / playback feature ?

Hi All,
My team is about to start a development in the field of Air Traffic
Control and we have record and playback requirements.
We will be using Red Hat 7.2, Kdevelopo and the Qt library for UI.
First, I have some difficulties finding tips about the record/playback
feature that was added to X11 R6.4.
Second, I would like to figure out how Qt could help implementing such a
feature.
I would be interested by any feedback or resource on this subject.
