compiling with gtk+-2.0

Hello 

I am trying to create a gnome application from the Kdevelop. 
The problem is that it pick up the gtk1.2 libraries by default.

I want to use the gtk+-2.0 libraries for compling. 
I believe that the setting have to be done with the autoconf and/or
automake. But there is no documentation which suggests how to do this. 

I am using Redhat 8 default setup. 
kdevelop 2.1.3. etc. 

Any suggestion, pointers in this regard would be helpful.
