configure: error: C compiler connot create executables

KDevelop 2.1

creating a C++ project I get the following output:

configure.in:58: warning: do not use m4_patsubst: use patsubst or
m4_bpatsubst
configure.in:102: warning: do not use m4_regexp: use regexp or
m4_bregexp
autoheader: 'config.h.in" is created
configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables


Since the configure.in file was created by KDevelop, I had no control
over it.  How can I config KDevelop to use patsubst/regexp?

And how can I correct this "C compiler cannot create executables"?
