quick graphics...

i am porting a dos-windows plattaform game under linux,
that game is doing heavy SVGA use using VESA2.0 in dos and DirectDraw in 
windows. Basically i use a huge framebuffer (640x480x65k colors). How could i 
do the same in X without having to rewrite the game? I would like to have the 
game running on most pcs without too much trouble for players...

Where could i find resources about graphics programming under X?
i heard about DGA, for exzample, what is it?
