KDevelop 1.4.1 - better fault reporting to user

I recently had trouble because nothing happened when I started the debugger. 
Thanks to help which I received from Franz Reinhardt, I have now fixed the 
problem - it turned out that gdb would not run due to a library conflict.

Please help other people avoid wasting time because of similar faults - 
please make kdevelop display an error message when it can't run gdb.
