KDevelop 1.4.1 debug problem

First of all, kdevelop works on a SuSE system :-).

Second, you may check your installation, if the GNU debugger (gdb) is
installed. 

Third, you may run kdevelop --setup again, which does a complete check
of your kdevelop installation, and will show you if there's something missing.
