application icon

This is sorta off topic, but how the heck do I specify the applications 
icon that sits in the upper left of the window, and on the kde task bar? 
The KDE porting KDE to KDE2 points to loadApplicationIcon, but I can't find 
ANY reference to it either in the kde docs, or in the kde headers.
