Why limiting this to postgreSQL?
In KDE 2.1, you'll find "kdb", an approach to
an generic db interface. You can extend it and
then make your app use it. 

Although it is in kdelibs,  binary compatiblity is
not guranteed for this release (that'S qwhy it
isn't compiled in by default). OTOH, this leads
to the pleasant sideeffect that you can safely 
extend kdb without caring about b/c.

kdb is plugin based and features  / will feature 
plugins for mySQL mSQL, postgreSQL, ODBC
and anything else you like (and add ;)
