I found another little error in the templates:

in initMenuBar you call e.g. myMenu->insertItem(BarIcon ("fileopen"), 
...etc); but it should be myMenu->inserItem(SmallIcon ("fileopen"),....etc). 
Maybe one could change that, because it looks pretty weird with Toolbar icons 
in the menus (kind of oversized...uh?)
