I found it! Trying to keep sources dir pristene, I was
compiling in
a /tmp directory. "conftest.cpp" had an include
"config.h.bot" I changed
it to <config.h.bot> and it found it. The alternative is
compiling in 
the source dir -or- moving it to the "/tmp" dir. Either
clutters the
sources.
