odbc / postgresql links from kdevelop

Hello anyone
2 questions.
1  Can a well-experienced C programmer with no C++ experience expect to get
up to speed in this package in a reasonable time.  How to shorten the
learning curve in C++.
In short, I need to move fast.

2.  Skimming the package documentation for working with databases has been
fruitless.  Are there howto's that I am missing?  Need clients both in
Linux and W95(ugh!).
