BTW: I also wanted to look into it but couldn't get it to "work". I.e. here 
man:/ is fast again.

So you say QString is slow with man:/? Can you try man qstring or similar? 
Maybe in konqueror try man:/qstring or so? Are they slow? Where did you get 
the manpages from?
