The reason against that is that it is not adhering to the XDG standard then. 
This is cached data which can become quite large (we are speaking multi-GB 
here). Sysadmins need a way to store that data on a local hard disk instead of 
using a slow NFS share which is usually where you put ~/.kde e.g.
