Running seperate instance of KDevelop

Hello all,

I would like to have a seperately installed "development" version of KDevelop, 
so I can work with it without breaking my production version of KDevelop.  
I've tried running it from the build directory, but it appears that the 
development build of kdevelop uses the production installed kdevelop plugin.  
I'm a little confused on how to proceed with this matter.  Could someone be 
so kind and friendly as to enlighten me on how to do this?
