It's a good place to start - but just for the records: you'll have a hard time 
starting with it.

This is for one reason: KDE is currently on the run to a new major version. 
The base-libraries (kdelibs) are not yet fully ported. Don't expect to get 
any useable desktop using something from SVN trunk.

Though trunk is where this new Java stuff - that Jakob talks about - 
happens...
