I always thought that behavior was random. In my HEAD build or KDevelop I 
right now have the behavior you describe as "good". I get one or the other, 
but I never figured out the cause.

I couldn't reproduce that until I updated kdelibs tonight. (I was a few weeks 
behind before.) Now I get the exact behaviour you describe. Obviously, 
something changed in kdelibs, the question is, what...?
