AFAIK not :-(

While putting gideon in its own branch will preserve its history
moving a branch to HEAD won't preserve the history (it will remain
available in the branch though) . The keyword is 'moving', as in the
end moving from a branch to the trunk is like for i in
files_in_branch; do cvs co -p $i > $i; done; .
