It's a bug in kde libs (or we are doing something essentially wrong ;))

Anyways, I've forwarded your report so it can be fixed.

As for the "don't automatically close this window": There is a checkbox in the 
HEAD version of KDE (the upcomming 3.1 release) that leaves the window open 
after a keystroke has been assigned.
