kdevelop release for 3.1 alpha1

Does that mean that kdevelop 3.x is planned to get stable enough for kde 3.1 
to replace kdevelop 2.x without too many regressions?

I know most of this depends on coders, I would like to know what is the plan, 
and whether kdevelop 2.x will be considered as a "backup plan" in case 
kdevelop 3.x won't make it on time.

(That essentially reduces to whether I should start using kdevelop 3.x now, 
and swear ;-) but hack on it, or not)
