People,
This is some important point. Are there any people working on performance
issues in kde core? Charles had told me that the two bottlenecks were:
1) dynamic linker
2) XML UI
There is some article about it, too.
It takes multiple seconds to start a simple file/web browser. Anything that
takes more than 100msec feels non-interactive to a human. I was myself
thinking of looking at XML UI, but obj prelinking is way beyond my interests.
Does the utility mentioned have any use now? I remember some heated
discussions and other people pointing to ld.so prelink configuration. What is
the best solution at the moment for bottleneck 1, and is there anybody
interested in bottleneck 2?
(I'm telling you XML is slow, nobody's listening. Check your mozilla code to
see some real slowness)
