helping out

Hello, I'm a computing science student and I want to help out on something. Is 
there any documentation anywhere for the stuff that has already been done? 
Also, I'm trying to compile the program from CVS and am getting hundreds of 
errors similar to the ones below. Do you know what program is getting called 
by the makefile? For some reason its not saying when I pipe it into less.
