Bug#31982: Xlib: extension "RENDER" missing

this is an XFree86 issue... and whether or not the driver for your video card 
has 'RENDER' support.  In general... 'xdpyinfo | grep RENDER' is a quick way 
to check... but it looks like you've already discovered the answer ;-)

(probably better answered on the 'render at xfree86.org' list)

you might have luck with XFree86-4.1.0 (I assume you're running 4.0.3 on 
RedHat) since many drivers have RENDER support in 4.1.0
