If I remeber correctly the gideon internal kwrite part doesn't compile with 
KDE or at least isn't installed because of two different KTextEditor 
Interfaces (gideon, kdelibs).

For me it worked deleting all gideon config files and the kwritepart desktop 
file and then try starting gideon.

(Not sure if it is exactlyteh same problem you are experiencing, that I did)
