Hi 

I think I have found a work-around for the undocked windows. I copied 
the original source "kdeveloprc" file from kde1.4.1 over the copy in 
~/.kde/share/config . I restart kdevelop, let setup (kdevelop's 
setup) run,  and so far so good!
