As a mere user, this is what puzzles us: why "new" stuff instead of fixing

Yes I know it's open source, and people work on their own particular itches, 
but surely email is email and right up there (if not above) with web browsing 
in terms of Mission Critical software ... (no offense to Paul and the back-end 
stuff, talking from an end-user perspective)...
