Everything is local to my machine. I just used the defaults kontact provided 
years ago before akonadi was on the scene, its has a very old base and was 
upgraded by the system.

I'll try the read-only for 2 logins as i only use kontact on one of them and 
just kmail on the others.

Not sure that will happen.  i have had a long standing problem with suspended 
reminders where if i suspend a reminder for a period of time, logout before 
its due to remind me again, log back into that user a bit later and i never 
see the reminder again even if its within in the suspend time - it should keep 
reminding me about it until I dismiss it even if the appointment time has 
passed. ( i have logged a bug for it)
