Simply backup or copy your maildir folder to destination of your choice.
After setting up KMail, use the "import" function to import maildir
folders, point it to where you saved your mails.
The boring part is that all imported mails will be under an "import"
folder and set to unread. It is a bit tedious to move folders and mark
all mail as read but it is a "once off" thing.
Though I think I have done it at least 3 times due to borked fresh
installs and migrations...
