[kdepim-users] importing old kmail emails

Greetings all;

I just installed Mint-17.1 LTS, then after looking at T-Bird and finding
the only account it would let me use was a captive account, apparently
owned by the moz people, a situation that has zero chance of happening
here as I rather enjoy my privacy. So I installed enough kmail to get it
to run.

Of course there are no accounts or folders. The accounts for rx are
simple, scan and retrieve new mail placed in /var/spool/mail by the
mailfilter/fetchmail/procmail/spamassassin/clamav checks. That has not
been setup yet, and ATM I am back booted to a 10.04.4 LTS install in order
to send this.

Send accounts I can setup in a minute or so each once I retrieve the
configs by screenshots of the old 1.13.5 setups. It will take more time to
print them than to retype them into the account creator.

But, I would much rather use its import function to go get about 25Gb of
old mail from the previous installations drive, now mounted at
/media/ubuslash. But there appears to be no way to tell this new kmail
that its there.

Its 99.9% maildir format and getting so bulky in 3 of the nearly 50
folders that 1.13.5 was getting boringly slow.

Sure, I can copy them over with something like mc, but if I import. that
should try to fix any huge diffs in how it does access this rather large
corpus of email, some of which goes back to 2002.

So how do I go about this importation, which I fully expect to take a few
hours?

Thanks all.

Cheers, Gene Heskett
