Another possibility that might help -

I understand that part of the problem with the Debian Kontact is the
mix of versions (maybe not that simple, I'm no expert).  Could you
perhaps try launching the parts of Kontact that you use as separate
applications, then use the Group facility for tidyness?  If the
problem is in the Kontact container that might work.
