[kdepim-users] Kmail POP3 access: problem with Gmail server

Since moving on to Mageia-3 I'm having problems accessing the Gmail 
POP3 server (using KWallet to handle passwords; difficult to avoid!).

What happens is:

 (1) 1st attempt to fetch email from server:  No mail fetched
       (even though know there is some there)
       
  (2) 2nd attempt: Request to enter password ("Because previous 
attempt failed")      
      Enter password: Result same as (1).
      
No problem with other POP servers - just Gmail.

(No problem with Gmail on Mageia-2.)

Anyone else come across this? (Better still: Know the solution?!)
