have never heard of anything like this but I guess all is possible. It 
should be possible to use KMail without KWallet though even though it is 
not the "recommended" method. It is now so long ago I set up KMail with 
accounts that I don't quite recall but I think you get a question if you 
want to use KWallet or not?

However, the problem that started this discussion is that KMail in KDE 
4.9 seem to forget at least the SMTP password, regardless of wallet or 
not. I have to type it in once a day or so, not that it bothers me lot 
but it is a bug for sure.
