[kdepim-users] How do I set filters in imap?

Hi. I'm using a spare laptop with OpenSuSE 12.1 and trying to get KDE-PIM 
4.8.3 to work with an imap server.

While I've done tons of pop 3 servers, I've never done an imap server and I 
don't understand how to set up my filters, nor what other settings I need to 
make. The "Help" documentation is spectacularly skimpy on how to do that.

How do I get my mail to filter into the proper folders? And what the heck is a 
sieve?
