[kdepim-users] kontact as such

...is in a terrible state. and all this akonadi/nepomuk/strigi/whatelse-i-
dont-know backend jumble does not help at all.

Kontact as of now has the bloat of a lotus notes of around 2007, without
actually offering as much functionality of a lotus notes of 2007.

Show me one user who actually *needs* three or four different, stacked
backends *to read emails*.
(pseudoanswer: but kontact does more than email) - ok, show me users who
actually use all that.

Last night I spent the better part of two hours to convince kmail2 to see
unread mails in my inboxes, instead of only in subfolders of inboxes.
Had to delete the mail accounts and set them up again, in some cases more than
once, to get kmail back to being usable.

Before I told the akonadi server to use a central mysql database instead of
starting its own, kontact was hardly usable at all because running mysql with
innodb tables on nfs shares is generally a bad idea.
Now that akonadi uses mysql tables on a central mysql server, i at least don't
have to wipe the database files once or twice per week anymore.
but instead, ONE akonadi instance from ONE user already generates 2 megabytes
of tablespace, 5-10 queries per second, and 10 kilobyte per second in traffic.

I really do not think that all this is necessary *TO READ EMAIL*.

/rant off
