This is one I didn't know about it, but now I think about it, I see the same
when my mail server goes down.

Again, not something I have noticed and will watch out for it.

My home-based mail server appends my domain name onto the end of the
distribution list name and sends it back to me as the default bounce address.
Whether this is the right way for the mail server to act (RFC wise), I don't
know, but I'm glad it does!
