[kdepim-users] copying data files from KMail, KAddressBook and KOrganizer in KDE 4.2.4

Hi, Anders --

Thank you for addressing my questions.

Your advice with KWallet was very helpful.

I have tried to follow your directions with KAddressBook, KOrganizer and
KMail, but I'm stuck

I ran

find / -name akonadi

This outputs about 298 lines, with paths under these directories:

/usr/include
/usr/doc/
/usr/lib
/usr/bin
/usr/share/sip
/usr/share/apps
/usr/share/mime/app
/usr/share/locale
/usr/share/kde4/services
/usr/share/applications
/usr/share/config
/usr/share/.config
/home/hinman/.config
/home/hinman/local

I also ran

find / -name systemsettings

This outputs 71 lines, with paths under these directories:

/usr/doc/HTML
/usr/bin
/usr/share/apps
/usr/share/locale
/usr/share/kde4
/usr/share/applidations/kde4
/home/hinman/.kde/share/config

I also ran find on "vcard", which outputs 78 lines.

However, I have not been able to locate text files for email, addressbook,
or calendar data.

Can you tell me anything to help narrow the search further?

Best Regards,

Vwaju

KAddressbook uses vcard files, which should be readable by most addressbook
software. Depending on your setup, this might be a single file with all your

contacts, or a directory of files. Look at the akonadi resources for your
addressbook, in systemsettings, they will contain the locations of files.

Korganizer uses ical files, which are standard for mac calendar systems
afaik.
You just need to find the locations of your files, in the akonadi resources
in
systemsettings.

KMail uses common formats like mbox or maildir, which should be usable by
your
mac mail application. You can find the location in the kmail rc file,
~/.kde4/share/config/kmailrc likely, or in the akonadi resources if you use
kmail2.

All those files or directories can be copied, or you can just point your new

applications to them. If your applications can not use them directly, they
might have an import facility.

KWallet have an option to export an XML file with your data, this is the
best
option you have. Start kwalletmanager, clicke on the wallet file and use
file->export menu.
