I forgot to mention:
- Akonadi stores its data in ~/.local/share/akonadi
- The data of the Personal Contacts address book is stored in 
~/.local/share/contacts

Hmm. It shouldn't be necessary to start an application once before 
copying the old file. Are you sure you copied it to the right location? 
You write "there was no ~/kde/share/apps/akregator.rc". The correct 
location and filename are ~/.kde/share/config/akregatorrc. If it's not 
just typos in your message then this would explain why Akregator didn't 
find the old file.
