Is there really an END:VCALENDAR missing at the end? Or did you just
omit it?

There's nothing wrong with this. KOrganizer can read version 1.0, but it
writes only version 2.0.

I have put the above version 1.0 calendar in a file and imported it into
KOrganizer 4.4 RC2. It was imported as an event from 0:00 till 12:00
(which corresponds to DTSTART and DTEND). The result was very different
from your result with KOrganizer 3.5.

I have also put the above version 2.0 calendar in a file, added the
END:VCALENDAR and added this file as calendar. Charlie's Birthday was
shown correctly.

So, with KOrganizer 4.4 RC2 importing seems to work although one does
not get the same (correct, as far as I can tell) result as with
KOrganizer 3.5. Of course, this doesn't help you much, as you are
looking for a solution which works with KOrganizer 3.5. :-/

Ingo
