no, it doesn't. yes i remember dreaming of having plasma displaying a notification about new mail
w/o me having to have running kmail constantly, but that was on a powerful desktop computer.
on a low-end netbook i'm satisfied with webmail.

i believe a special akonadi-based version of kontact would run fine on my netbook too,
until i start using kdevelop on it at the same time.

seriously, running this 'noakonadi.sh' script:
killall -9 mysqld-akonadi
killall akonadi_maildir_resource
killall akonadi_contacts_resource
killall akonadi_nepomuk_contact_feeder
killall akonadi_ical_resource
killall nepomukserver
frees 80 megabytes of RAM, and that's almost 8% of my total RAM, which i would rather use for not having to close kdevelop while i compile my project in konsole (if i forget to do this and start build process, then the system hangs and i have to reboot it)
(to be more objective, i must note that i take other precautions like exiting ktorrent (50 megs) during development and not having opera (>130 megs) open).
