Howdy,

Are you mailboxes `maildir' or `mbox' type?  `maildir' has an
associated index.  I'm not sure whether that comes into play when
performing keyword searches.

I manually archive my sent/receive folders and in 2008's `receive'
folder, I currently have 35,380 messages.  Typing in `an' resulted in
results coming back within a second or so.

My machine is a _honker_ though:  Quad I7, 3.07GHz with 6GB of RAM.
