I have a fair number of such folders here. The fact that they're only ever
added to and *never* deleted from doesn't seem to stop the software from
taking the time (my time! When I'm trying to get the software to do
something else!) and "compacting" them anyhow.
I suspect that there are perhaps other ways in which things are getting slowed
down by having so much mail on hand as well, though I don't think I have
100000 of them in one folder anywhere.
