I don't think you are doing anything wrong. This seems to be a 
regression error that has been introduced in newer versions of KMail. 
KMail seems to misinterpret the response of your IMAP server. Since the 
server runs only on Windows Server I cannot easily test this.

Do you use encryption (SSL/TLS) for the connection to your IMAP server 
or do you use an unencrypted connection? In the latter case, an 
ethereal/wireshark log of the communication between KMail and your 
server might shed some light on this problem.
