I don't see that Decibel is pertinent at all. The page speaks about 
communications protocols. I just want to dial the telephone and talk 
through it.

It is very difficult to believe that there is not a  straightforward way 
to coax Kaddressbook to do this simple trick, given that the thoughtful 
developer has provided a hook for a dialer, though he didn't make the 
effort to describe in his "documentation" how to use it.
