Thanks for replying, Ingo.  I'm not sure that I understand the implications of 
that.  This is F9 with KDE 4.0.5.  I copied emaildefaults and emailidentities 
from the renamed folder to my new .kde/share/config folder, and I've now 
copied the kmailrc, which I thought I had already done.

Important flags have been preserved, which is good, but I'm left wondering 
whether I actually had this box configured as I wished, or whether I really 
have lost settings due to reorganisation.  I don't think that what I have 
done constitutes recreating the IMAP account, though.
