By "preview pane" do you mean the part that's normally on-screen here,  in the 
lower-right portion?

Agreed about the nuisance part of that popup,  I'd end up wanting to hit (and 
hold) the shift key to get ready to mark-and-move to the next with the arrow 
key,  and in holding it for a few seconds I'd get numerous popups one right 
after another,  and have to sit here closing them,  one after another...

It got so annoying every time I'd hit <enter> instead of the right shift key 
that I ended up going in and editing the shortcuts to remove that one.
